What is Living Free Community of Washington County? Living Free Community of Washington County is a faith-based organization. We offer support groups in southern Indiana to help overcome addiction, or offer guidance to those who have loved ones battling addiction. We work hand-in-hand with other organizations and ministries to provide a COMMUNITY of resource options to battle addiction. We also work very closely with Teen Challenge, a network of residential facilities that offer faith-based addiction recovery, as well as several other faith-based residential recovery centers.
How much does it cost to be in a Living Free support group or class? All support groups are free. However, we ask each participant to pay for their workbook, which is typically $15 or less for each group.
How long do Living Free support groups or classes last? Support groups and classes usually last between 9 and 13 weeks, depending on the class. Each class session lasts about 1 and a half hours. Classes and groups are set up to fit the participants schedules as much as possible. Most groups meet on Tuesday or Thursday evenings, at a location determined by the facilitator.
What types of classes and groups do you offer? Please refer to our Classes/Groups page for a detailed list of what we offer..
How did Living Free Community of Washington County get started? In 2001 a small group of people came together with a common purpose: to find a way to combat the drug problem in our rural community and provide help and support for our loved ones who were suffering from addictions.
We began meeting once a month and were guided by a representative from Teen Challenge. As each person shared their personal desire to make a difference in our community, it was suggested we form an organization called "Lifeline" to offer local support groups for people suffering from addictions, as well as for their family members. The first name of the organization was Lifeline Washington County. In 2015 the name was changed to Living Free Community of Washington County, to include the other organizations we work with, and to be more closely aligned with our national organization LivingFree.org.
Where is Living Free Community of Washington County located? Over the years we have met at different locations in Salem, IN that have been offered to us free of charge. At one time we hoped to have a building or office of our own, but have since felt our resources can be better used in assisting individuals, rather than paying rent and utilities for a building.
We currently hold our business meeting on the first Monday evening of each month at the Jeans Extrusions office building. Some of our support groups also meet here. Other groups meet at the Center For Women's Ministries, above Heaven Sent Gifts on the Square in Salem, IN.
How is Living Free Community funded? We are a non-profit organization and we receive donations from:
Individual Living Free Community members
Local Churches
Substance Abuse Council (in the form of a yearly mini grant)
Fees through Probation Dept.
Fund Raising Activities (Community Chili Supper/Dessert Auction first Sat. of every Feb.)
Individual Contributions - If you'd like to make a donation you can do so online or mail a check made payable to Living Free Community, C/O Bruce Stephenson, 4517 E St. Rd 160, Salem, IN 47167.
Does Living Free Community provide financial assistance to individuals? If an individual wants to attend a faith-based residential recovery program, we often help pay the entry fee. Residential programs typically cost between $800-$1700 a month, plus an additional entry fee. We are not usually able to provide monthly support for an individual, but we will do our best to help them find resources so that funding does not keep them out of recovery.
